This is how we celebrated the Day of the Cowboy!
I am that person that likes to celebrate my birthday on the day, for the week, to be honest, for the whole month! Being home bound really cramped my style.
I had a dilemma! What was I going to do for my birthday being in lockdown?
While wracking my brain about what we could do that would be fun, that old country song Achy Breaky Heart, by Billy Ray Cyrus came on the radio, and that was it!
I have two left feet and because of lock down I had plenty of time to practice. Needless to say, the rest of the family thought I had lost the plot. I figured it was a fun theme, we had lots of stuff to work with since we are a horsey family, and it was something to plan and look forward to.
Delving into our store of décor and raiding cupboards, we came up with some nifty ideas. We had horse figurines, a saddle and other riding gear that added to the theme. A pallet, some buckets, flowers and a mish mash of other things.
Every respectable party needs an invitation, so once again we used Greetings Island. Have a look at our funky Day of the Cowboy Invitation.
The weather was still warm, and we were planning a late lunch, so it was decided to set up everything on the patio.
Courtney spray painted a few empty wine bottles silver and raided the rose bushes for petals and hibiscus for flowers.
We really love using this idea for table décor.
It’s different and always looks great.
Try it with roses, daisies too.
The table runner was a length of frayed hessian which you can buy from a fabric store, and a great accessory to keep in the cupboard for an impromptu lunch or birthday with a rustic theme. The old pallet was was placed on a table with a couple of hurricane lamps and the metal buckets came in handy for the cutlery.
With Ashleigh, our own photographer in the house, we never miss an opportunity for a photoshoot. It’s a great way to have fun and laugh at yourself and each other. It’s also a great confidence booster to be directed by someone who knows what they’re doing, and the photos come out great.
Our exceptionally high standard come from setting a high bar for our own private events.
My son, Aston, is a chef and creates the most delicious celebration meals. The table was beautifully presented and laden with the most delicious dishes from appetizers through to dessert.
The whole Day of the Cowboy was a real treat. Every day should be a celebration!
As for my debut as a star line dancer … it didn’t materialise. I did try though, and no! the video is not available. I still have two left feet. Even lockdown was not enough time for me to learn all the steps from beginning to end. One day, is one day…
